Farewell to an Old Friend I Didn’t Know

I did not know him from the name in the announcement, but I thought it would be a good idea to check just in case. Yesterday, the New York Times announced that Charles Lane, a long time Hollywood character actor, had died at the age of 102. Even without the Hollywood credit you have to admire a man that opted to stick it out that long. Only from his picture did I recognize the film and television actor. He was “ohh, that guy” in many of my favorite shows and films like “I Love Lucy”, “The Munsters” and “It’s a Wonderful Life”.

After reading the NYT article, I am struck by how much work he had in the business ( 23 films in 1933 alone). I am also awed by how he was there (Hollywood) in the beginning bouncing from set to set in the Studio System as one of the first members of the Screen Actors Guild.

I hope it was a good life. Thanks for sharing it with us.
